Discover the joys of Plein Air painting! Popularized by Impressionist artists, this approach to art involves creating a finished painting entirely outdoors. In this workshop, Crystal Hird from the Eastern Iowa Arts Academy will guide you through using water colors to create your own work of art inspired by Brucemore’s historic landscape. No prior artistic experience is required to participate!

Admission:

• $15 General Admission
• A $4.00 processing fee will be applied to all online and phone orders. Admission may be purchased without a processing fee by visiting the the Mansion during open hours.

What to know before you go:

• This workshop includes materials. If you own arts supplies that you prefer to use, you are welcome to bring those materials.
• This workshop will involve being outside for an hour and walking across grass to reach the check-in location. Please choose your shoes and clothing with this in mind.
• In the event of rain, the workshop will be moved to an indoor location in Brucemore’s Carriage House.
• Capacity is limited. Advanced registration is encouraged. If space is available, admission may be purchased at the mansion on the day of the event.
• This workshop is recommended for adults and children 8 and up. All children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the workshop.

What to do when you arrive:

• Please enter the property through the gate at 2160 Linden Dr. SE., Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
• Once on-site, please follow signs towards the Mansion, where there is on-site parking.
• Use parking by the mansion along the First Avenue lawn and walk to the check-in location beneath the oak tree on the lawn.
• Please check-in for the workshop with Brucemore staff by providing the name used for your admission purchase.

Tips for your visit

• Please consider leaving bags or other larger personal items in your vehicle.
• All ticket sales are final. Please read our ticket policy here.
• Visitors are encouraged to explore Brucemore during their visit. Take a walk around the grounds or purchase tickets for a guided tour of the Mansion.

Event participants will be checked-in from a list. You do not need to order tickets delivered by mail unless you would like to have a physical ticket.
