Brucemore's standard tour explores over a century of Cedar Rapids history through the lives of the three families who called Brucemore home. A trained tour guide will discuss the art, furnishings, technology, architecture, surrounding landscape, and stories preserved at Brucemore. 

 

SCHEDULE OF TOURS

  • Offered Wednesday through Sunday 
  • Times vary by day - click on the purchase tickets link to see specific times for the day of interest.
  • Tours last approximately 45 minutes and can accommodate up to 16 people per tour group. 

ADMISSION 

  • $9 per adult
  • $3 per student (ages 6 - 18)
  • Free - Youth 5 and under (a ticket is required)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR VISIT

  • Arrival: We ask that you arrive via our main entrance, 2160 Linden Drive SE. There is on-site parking both near our Visitor Center and the mansion. 

  • Tour: Standard tours last 45 minutes. Tours take visitors to four floors of the mansion. The first floor is accessible for visitors with limited mobility; however, an elevator is not available for the basement, second or third floors. 

  • Capacity: Tours are limited to 16 people per time. Group tours are available for 16 or more people by sending an email or calling (319) 362-7375. Groups are encouraged to schedule three weeks in advance. 

  • Will Call: If you selected Will Call, your tickets will be available at the mansion. 

  • Explore: Visitors are encouraged to explore the estate before and after tours. Stop by Brucemore's free Visitor Center to learn more, enjoy exhibits about the families, and peruse Brucemore's gift shop. The Visitor Center is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 12:30 to 3:15 p.m. on Sundays.  

  • Photography: Photography for souvenir purposes is welcome on the grounds, but is not allowed inside the mansion.

  • Coats and bags: We are unable to store personal possessions while you are on the tour, including coats. You may wish to consider leaving large bags or other items in your vehicle.

  • Check In: Please arrive with your tickets printed at the mansion at the time selected. Tours begin promptly as listed. Holding space inside is limited.

  • Ticket policies: All ticket sales are non-refundable. Tickets to Brucemore produced programs may be returned up to 24 hours prior to the program as a tax-deductible contribution or as an exchange for a different date or time of the same program, subject to availability. Other policies may vary. 

Hired Help Tour

Discover the lives of Brucemore's domestic servants in the early twentieth century. Consider what it was like to live and work on one of Iowa's grandest estates while discovering the servants' living quarters and the Servants' Village, an area only open to the public during this tour. Documents, photographs, and other materials from Brucemore's collections enrich visitors' understanding of the relationships between the employers and their staff.

Nooks and Crannies Tour

Visit every floor, peek into closed rooms, and satisfy curiosity through this all-access pass to the mansion. Marvel at the Skinner pipe organ room, discover the architecture and oddities of the mansion, and experience the sight and sound of a "rain storm" in the basement Tahitian Room. Due to preservation work on the roof, the attic may not be available on the tour.

Neighborhood Bike Tour

Brucemore’s popular Neighborhood Walk Tour is back, but with a twist! The tour will now be offered as a Neighborhood Bike Ride! Bring your bike and helmet and join a Brucemore guide for a casual ride through the neighborhood while you learn about the history, architecture, and previous residents of one of Cedar Rapids’ most beautiful areas.

Garden and Landscape Tour

Enjoy the seasonal splendor the historic grounds on this tour led by Brucemore's Historic Landscape Manager. Ask questions on topics ranging from particular plantings to landscape designs.

Art in the Garden: Ceramic Leaf Bowls

Dates:

  • Sunday, September 15, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM (SOLD OUT)

Join iowa Ceramics Center in creating ceramic leaf bowls. Use the fallen leave from the trees at Brucemore to decorate your own, hand-made bowl. Pick up your creation and take it home to remember the event! All materials and supplies will be provided. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to check-in at the Visitor Center. 

Music in the Mansion Tour

Preservation Tour

Discover preservation in progress this summer at Brucemore, one of Iowa’s most iconic historic sites. Executive Director David Janssen will lead you on a special look at the on-going preservation work that helps ensure the property is around for the next 100 years. The 26-acre estate features six historic structures that create a complex puzzle of aging stone, wood, metal, slate, glass, and brick. The tour will include access to buildings not usually open to the public as well as a look at Phase II of the Mansion Envelope Restoration Project. Each tour will offer a different perspective as various parts of the project are completed throughout the summer.
